A SERIOUS accident involving a car and a petrol tanker has this morning closed part of a busy Hampshire motorway.
All emergency services are currently on the scene at the M27 at junction five - one of the key routes in to Southampton and the turn off for the city's Airport.
Police were called amid reports a black Vauxhall Corsa and a white Scania tanker had collided in the middle lane of the westbound carriageway.
Fire crews from Eastleigh, Redbridge and St Mary's are currently on the scene to cut the roof from the car with two people trapped inside the vehicle.
It is not yet known what injuries were sustained in the smash, which happened at around 10.30am.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area completely and severe congestion is expected while fire crews carry out their work.
The westbound carriageway has been closed and no time frame has been set for it to be reopened.
