Cerebral palsy girl Karis thanks school friends for 'new legs' which have given her a new lease of life

LITTLE Karis Ferguson walked proudly into class yesterday with the "new legs" she has thanks to her schoolmates.
The five-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, was just back from America after surgery that will allow her to play with her pals and lead a normal life.
Every pupil at Knoxland Primary in Dumbarton, where Karis is in P1, played their part in helping to raise the £45,000 needed for the selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) procedure.
Karis’s parents Sarah and Grant thanked everyone at the school.
Sarah said: “The school was the biggest fundraiser and everyone there has been a great support to Karis.
“Karis is now looking forward to everything she will be able to do with her ‘new legs’.”
Pupils, staff and parents raised £4310 for Karis, including more than £2000 in 90 minutes at the Knoxland Christmas fare. And kids handed in pocket money towards the appeal.
The Daily Record's sister newspaper, the Lennox Herald also launched a fundraising campaign for Karis last October.
Karis has been excited about playing sports she couldn’t take part in before as her legs were in splints.
Just before the op at St Louis Hospital in Missouri, she gave a letter to surgeon Dr Park.
Sarah said: “Karis made a list of activities she wants to do after the operation – and there were 30. I can’t think of anything she left out.
“Karis spoke to Dr Park and he told her, ‘You will be able to do all of that – and a lot more.’"
