THE air ambulance was called to help a teenage factory worker crushed by a pallet weighing nearly a ton in Elland this morning.
Aaron Joyce, who works for CEL Glass Ltd on Heathfield Industrial Estate, is understood to have suffered a broken hip in the accident.
The 18-year-old from Halifax was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where his hip was pinned.
Police said they were called to the factory at 9.45am by air ambulance paramedics.
The pallet, with a roll of fibre glass on it, was being unloaded when the accident happened.
Although Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called, he was taken to hospital in a road ambulance.
The Health and Safety Executive have been made aware of the accident.
Jon Newsome, managing director of the firm, said: “Our concern is his wellbeing.
“He’s a very good worker. He’s a good time keeper and hard working.”
He said Aaron had started at the factory as part of a 12-month training scheme but he was taken on after nine months in January because he had impressed the firm’s bosses.
